Talk:Tool:Export Subpalette
From ZBrush Info
Hello, I need some trouble shooting assistance with importing/export obj data from and/to Maya. Typical, when I open Maya and create geometry, then export as obj and import into Zbrush, perform my desired function, then export obj and re-import back into Maya, I have had great success. Recently, I have begun working in a Maya file that is large. That is it covers a large area as far as cartesian coordinates are concerned (but the file is not heavy as far as memory is concerned. When exporting from this larger Maya file, Z brush will perform my desired functions fine, but after export wants to compress the geometry into a flat square. All of the polys remain intact, however, just flatten into a square. I am wondering if Zbrush is having trouble recognizing the high coordinate values? As a side note, I've noticed that even from the smaller coordinate files, Zbrush consistently mirrors my obj geometry from maya. Normally for me this is not a problem since when coming back into Maya I can simply mirror the geometry back to its original position. But I am wondering if these two things are related? One final piece of information is that when dealing with the larger coordinate file. The geometry coming from zbrush is not only flattened into a square but also has moved in space, that is it no longer imports into its original position in Maya.
Does anyone know of a work around for this coordinate space problem? I appreciate any help. Thank you, brian osborn

- The importexport submenu in the Preferences menu has options for flipping different axes on import and export. Setting these appropriately should solve the mirroring issue.
- On the flattening issue it does sound as though vertices for one axis are being set to zero (looking at the obj in a text editor would confirm this). I don't know why this should be but you may be right that the scale is what's causing the problem. You might try scaling down within Maya by a fixed amount before export and up again on import to see if that has any effect.
- Finally you are most likely to get the best help from posting in the Questions & Troubleshooting forum at ZBrush Central. There are experts with Maya who frequent there and will be better qualified to help.
